DStv Flex – If this information is eventually executed, then this will be one of the biggest changes to hit the broadcaster in the last 25 years.
According to a recent report from TV journalist Thinus Ferreira, Multichoice is working on a premium package that’ll unbundle some of its sports and movie channels, giving their viewers the choice of what they want in their packages.
DStv want to offer sport as an add-on in the form of three different sport packs that could be switched on in any month, and that could be cancelled and removed from the basic subscription from month-to-month as a subscriber wants to.
According to the reporter, “As part of a new possible DStv bouquet structuring plan, MultiChoice is looking at allowing DStv subscribers to choose their sport channels – the most expensive content – separately in the form of 3 different, optional, add-on sports packages each containing various bundled SuperSport and ESPN channels,”
At the moment, MultiChoice is facing growing pressure and pay-TV competition from global video streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video in its own backyard – with several more like Disney+, HBO Max, Discovery+ and Paramount+ set to be introduced in Africa in the future.
As a result, MultiChoice has now been testing a new package called DStv Flex. The aim of “DStv Flex” is to try and keep highly-prized DStv Premium customers within MultiChoice’s subscriber base – a fast-dwindling top-end subscriber segment – and to try and limit the growing churn of premium DStv subscribers.
This new package will give customers the will power to switch certain packages on and off at any time according to their needs. So if you want to take a break from sport in general, just cancel it for a while. Easy.
MultiChoice is simply testing this new package “DStv Flex” to know if former DStv Premium and Compact Plus subscribers will come back possibly to the new package that would consist out of a basic entertainment pack priced at R299 for premium content, with sports and movies as optional add-on packages.
