The Lagos Police Command has stated its men will remain at the Lekki toll gate until they get a directive to leave the scene.
The #OccupyLekkiTollGate protest was staged against the decision of the Lagos Judicial Panel of Inquiry and Restitution for Victims of SARS Related Abuses & Lekki Toll Gate Incident to have the Lekki tollgate reopened under the control of the Lekki Concession Company.
The protesters say the tollgate ought to remain under no control until justice is done regarding the lives allegedly lost when soldiers of the Nigerian Army opened fire during the #EndSARS protest on October 20, 2020.
Popular comedian, Mr Macaroni was arrested alongside other Occupy Lekki Toll Gate protesters who protested against the reopening of the Lekki plaza.
The spokesperson of the state police command, Muyiwa Adejobi, earlier today revealed that police officers stationed at the toll gate won’t leave until they get a directive from the state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu.
Speaking this morning, the police spokesperson said the police officers have laid siege to five locations in the state apart from the Lekki Tollgate.
“Our policemen are still at the tollgate, it is a deployment and we are working with an operation order and until there is a stand-down order of the operation from the Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, the men will still be there.
We have not arrested anyone today, there was no breakdown of law and order, no gathering or procession, everything is normal in the area.
But we are still maintaining our ground there and we have deployment in about five places aside from the Lekki tollgate and our men are still on standby at these strategic places.
We have police deployment in Unity Park, Gani Fawehinmi Park, Ogombo Junction, Adeniran Ogunsanya Junction, among others’’ he said
