The Nasarawa State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has warned and banned citizens from staging protests across the 13 Local Government Areas of the state.

On Sunday, a statement made available to journalists by the command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, in Lafia noted that the decision became necessary to forestall the breakdown of law and order in the state.

The force also urged parents and guardians to warn their wards to avoid lawlessness and uncultured behaviours.

The statement reads, “The Nasarawa State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that all forms of protest have been banned throughout the state.

“Therefore, all proposed protests under any guise are hereby prohibited.

“The police command took this decision in order to prevent a breakdown of law and order and to sustain the peace currently being enjoyed in the state; as the intelligence report on security can no longer sustain any form of protest in the state.

“Consequently, parents and guardians are advised to ensure their children and wards do not violate this order as anyone caught shall be arrested and prosecuted accordingly.”

Rant HQ reported earlier that women in Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State stormed the streets on Friday and stripped themselves half-naked to protest the outcome of the governorship election in the state.

The women in their black attires had placards emblazoned with different inscriptions and claimed their mandate was stolen, noting that their votes must count.

They insisted that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) must revert the result of the governorship in Nasarawa in the interest of peace.

Women protesters demanded, among other things, the cancellation of the governorship election.

The protesters who marched around major streets of Akwanga topless also alleged rigging of the governorship election by INEC in the state and the declaration of results causing traffic gridlock.
